The Area

- HISTORY, LANDSCAPE & TIMELESS BEAUTY -

The Tywi Valley is home to some of Wales’ most striking historic sites. Nearby you’ll find Dryslwyn Castle, once a stronghold of the Welsh princes, steeped in stories of betrayal and conflict. At Dinefwr Park, a National Nature Reserve, a historic castle sits within a vast and beautifully preserved estate.

Perhaps most unforgettable is Carreg Cennen Castle, dramatically positioned on a steep limestone cliff. Its setting feels almost impossible, yet it stands proudly above the surrounding countryside and is just a short walk from the tents.

In contrast to these ancient landmarks, the valley is also home to one of the most remarkable modern structures in Wales. The National Botanic Garden of Wales at Llanarthne features the world’s largest single-span greenhouse and spans over 560 acres, with more than 8,000 plant species. The gardens host a wide programme of seasonal activities, and visitors may even catch rare plant flowerings that attract global attention. The recently opened British Birds of Prey sanctuary, including golden eagle flying displays, is a highlight for all ages.

Close by, Aberglasney Gardens offers another extraordinary experience. With a history spanning over 550 years, it has inspired poets, artists and photographers alike and is widely regarded as one of the finest gardens in Wales.

The nearby town of Llandeilo adds to the charm of the area. Known for its independent shops, antique stores and art galleries, the town retains a strong sense of character with its pastel-painted Georgian houses and narrow streets leading down to its iconic bridge.
